Family Advocacy

Family support and advocacy is at the heart of Lowry Family Center's mission --as are our family advocates on staff. Lowry Family Center provides family support programs to families following principals specified by Family Support America and the Family Resource Center Association (FRCA), such as the value of working with families through relationships based on equality and respect.

When a family calls, Lowry Family Center advocates tap into a network of community resources to find the assistance it needs. LFC also gets many referrals from Denver Human Services to assist families with completing treatment plans to reunify families involved in the child welfare system.

Some of the support provided to families includes referrals to community resources, assistance with family visitation, crisis counseling, emergency utility assistance, and enrollment in public benefits. In 2010, Lowry Family Center will provide family support services to an estimated 800 families representing over 3,200 people.

Fatherhood Advocacy

Lowry Family Center has a devoted fatherhood advocate who works with fathers who have barriers to increasing their parenting time, such as overdue child support or unemployment. Lowry Family Center also provides "24/7 Dad" classes to adults and teen fathers at Montbello High School, as well as Couples’ Communication classes for couples who need to improve communication for the benefit of their children

Health Advocacy

Lowry Family Center recognizes that access to health is a challenge for many of our clients. All of our family advocates are trained in health care navigation, enrollment in CHP + and other public programs, and conducting family health assessments. Our advocates view good health and health coverage as an important step in their clients' obtaining long term success.

Holiday Assistance

The holidays and the start of school can be stressful for families with few resources. For this reason, Lowry Family Center organizes a large toy bag program during the holidays, provides Thanksgiving food baskets, and organizes a clothing and school supply giveaway in the fall.
